Research Project: Stability of supported platinum catalysts for low-temperature fuel cells

Research Summary:

Catalyst degradation is a major impediment to commercialization of PEMFCs. Models based on a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of degradation and accurate parameters can be used to investigate mitigation techniques. Platinum diffusivity and platinum solubility will be investigated to fill gaps in understanding that are crucial to these models. The knowledge gained will be used to produce an improved model that explains experimentally observed degradation. The model will be verified with PEMFC degradation experiments.
